About Musquodoboit Valley Outfitters

Musquodoboit Valley Outfitters is a small, family-run business rooted in a deep connection to the river and generations of family history in the valley.

We started this business in 2022 to share the experience of paddling the Musquodoboit River in a way that feels simple, welcoming, and accessible to everyone.

Our approach is intentionally low-key. We believe the best experiences on the river aren't rushed or overly structured; they're the ones where you slow down, take it all in, and leave feeling better than when you arrived.

Our Story

We're Nolan, Stef, Maple Barbara, and Roy Valentine Hartlin; the family behind Musquodoboit Valley Outfitters.

Nolan grew up in the Musquodoboit Valley, where his family has lived for generations. Long before MV Outfitters existed, he was swimming, fishing, and paddling the Musquodoboit River learning every bend and quiet stretch along the river.

Stef came to the valley from the South Shore. Her first time in a canoe was right here on the Musquodoboit River during a May Long weekend paddle and she was hooked.

Together, we have spent countless days paddling, camping and exploring along the river. It's where we got married. Where we announced we were expecting our first child. And where we've built our home and are raising our two children. In a world that often feels busy and disconnected, we feel incredibly blessed to raise our children along the Musquodoboit River where they can experience the same sense of adventure, freedom, and connection to nature that drew us to build our lives here.

This isn't just something we do. It's something we've built our lives around and we can't wait to share it with you.

The Hartlins

From our family to yours, happy paddling!

Legacy

MV Outfitters exists because of someone who was passionate about the Musquodoboit River and the natural world around it.

Dave Morash, owner of Meaghers Grant Canoe Rentals and Shuttle, spent over 30 years sharing his knowledge and love of the Musquodoboit River with others. He was well known and well loved, and for many people, their first experience on the river started with "Canoe Dave" as he was so warmly known around the valley.

We were lucky to know Dave over the years. He rented Stef her very first canoe, provided the canoes for our wedding, shared his knowledge generously, and helped us learn and connect with the river more deeply.

When Dave passed away unexpectedly in the fall of 2022 it was a loss felt deeply across the community. With the support of Canoe Dave's family, we made the decision to continue his service on the river; carrying things forward in a way that honours what Dave built, while making it our own.
